One the objectives of the Institute is to promote among engineers the use of innovative and advanced techniques, as well as creating interest for engineering and science in the general public, young people specially. To achieve this, the Institute develops the following activities:
Case documentation: Conceived for a broader audience than specialists, this is an effort to summarize and explain the solutions to interesting problems, where sophisticated engineering approaches have been applied.
Supporting the "Ingeniería de Sistemas" journal: The Department of Industrial Civil Engineering of the U. of Chile publishes this journal since 1978, which seeks to promote applied work in the areas of Operations Research, Operations Management and Information Technologies. Each issue includes innovative solutions applied in Chile and Latin America. Supporting the Business Intelligence Cup: The BICUP is a competition for solving a complex problem that has practical applications, and that needs to be approached with advanced engineering tools. The contest in organized by the Department of Industrial Civil Engineering of the U. of Chile.
Working material for high schools: Through talks and preparation of documents, the Institute will be working with students and teachers in several high schools in an effort to show young people the ideas, concepts and strategies behind Operations Research and other themes studied in the Institute.
